$620 Billion In Tax Hikes….Happy New Year!
Going over the fiscal cliff was supposed to bring $494 billion in new tax hikes with it. What the United States Senate agreed to early this morning would bring $620 billion in new tax hikes according to the Congressional Budget Office with only $15 billion in spending cuts.
As Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said last night and who ultimately voted against this flawed piece of legislation, “Not only are they raising taxes — maybe on a smaller percentage of people but a large amount of money — they’re also going to spend more money…So it’s a spending bill.”
Republicans in the House of Representatives have a duty to vote no on this very bad piece of legislation that only kicks the can down the road to the next generation. They need to follow the lead of Senators Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Mike Lee. There was a reason for the Republican tsunami in 2010; it is their moment in time to vote NO on this “spending bill.” The stakes are just too high and Citizens United will be watching.
