DAILY CALLER: DAVID BOSSIE: Trump Recognizes American Heroes At SOTU, Calls For Heroic Action On SAVE America Act
President Donald Trump’s recent State of the Union address was a truly historic moment in which he articulated his incredible accomplishments in office and his optimistic vision for the future, while showcasing real life examples of American Exceptionalism in the process.
Make no mistake about it, the record-breaking speech was also a presidential pep talk of epic proportions, both for the millions of Americans watching from home and for the scores of elected officials in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The sight of our 2026 Olympic gold medal hockey team in the House gallery being celebrated by the president conjured up wonderful memories of the 1980 “Miracle On Ice” squad and their legendary head coach, the late Herb Brooks. Brooks will always be remembered for his inspirational pep talks in the locker room and Trump’s unique ability to rally Americans behind a cause is no different.

Watching Jack Hughes, Connor Hellebuyck, and the rest of Team USA lifted up along with our military heroes, both past and present, was an awesome sight and a reminder that Americans can achieve greatness, if they’re willing to work hard, take risks, and rise to the occasion.
It was in effect a call to action by the President of the United States for the Senators and Representatives present for the speech that this is their moment and a not-so-subtle reminder that the future of America is worth the sacrifice. The heartfelt stories of hardship, courage, struggle, and heroism the president highlighted was a clarion call to the legislative branch – Senate Republicans in particular – that these are not normal times and that we must roll up our sleeves, work overtime, and get the job done for the American people and our beloved nation as we celebrate our 250th birthday.
Specifically, Trump issued a direct challenge to Republican Senators and Majority Leader John Thune to pass the SAVE America Act for his signature without delay. The president summed it up perfectly by saying, “And perhaps most importantly, I’m asking you to approve the SAVE America Act…It’s very simple. All voters must show voter ID. All voters must show proof of citizenship in order to vote…Both Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly agree on the policy that we just enunciated, and Congress should unite and enact this common sense, country saving legislation right now…why would anybody not want voter ID? One reason, because they want to cheat…We have to stop it, John.”
Trump is exactly right; it’s time to stop the cheating – and more than 80 percent of the American people are squarely behind him on this all-important issue. The legislation in question is an ultra-popular election integrity package that will restore trust in government and our beleaguered voting system, and the matter has now reached critical mass in the halls of Congress.
Due to the unserious, unhinged state of the Democrat Party, no Democrat Senators have signed on in support of the SAVE America Act, despite its monumental support from grassroots Americans on both sides of the political aisle. So, to pass Trump’s priority legislation, Republican Leader Thune would have to invoke the talking filibuster to get the measure to his desk the old-fashioned way – by making Democrats who want to stall the bill stand up and talk non-stop. It’s not a change in the rules and it doesn’t harm the filibuster. Quite the contrary, it’s the filibuster as it was originally intended to function.
Achieving this enormous win for the American people by securing our elections will require some soul searching by the Republican caucus in the Senate in terms of how they want to be remembered at this critical moment in history. Do Senators want their legacy to be the team who stepped up and saved our country from voter fraud and rampant cheating at the ballot box – or the ones who were in striking distance of victory but chose to play smallball instead?
The answer is clear. It’s time for Senate Republicans to unify behind the wishes of their constituents and “let ‘er rip” for the sake of our constitutional republic. The heroes that President Trump recognized from the well of the House the other night deserve no less. As Coach Brooks said, “this is your time; now go out there and take it!”
