Politico: Citizens United equals free speech

Former Rep. Tom Perriello and Amy Rosenbaum in their Opinion article, “Citizens United: Democracy for Sale” (POLITICO, May 30) just do not grasp the meaning of Citizens United v. FEC.

The left, starting with President Barack Obama, has cried crocodile tears over the last two plus years because more political speech is being spoken and they fear its wrath. Citizens United was a tremendous victory for the freedom of speech and lets the people hold incumbents accountable.

Using the rights restored by Citizens United, many individuals who were already free to spend unlimited sums have chosen to do so through a more convenient vehicle, the Super PAC. Corporations continue to spend the bulk of their resources on lobbying rather than political advertising.
