Chaffetz’s Amendment Cuts $1.8 billion
As a supporter of the Republican Study Committee’s “Cut, Cap, and Balance” pledge, Citizens United today endorsed Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz’s amendment that would cut an additional 10.4 percent or $1.8 billion, from the FY12 Department of Agriculture Appropriations Bill. The Chaffetz amendment will smartly cut the bureaucratic Food for Peace program as well as cut duplicative research programs at the USDA. America is facing a debt crisis, and although $1.8 billion is small compared to our $14 trillion national debt, the cuts will save money for the American taxpayer. This amendment is a step in the right direction; Citizens United hopes the House passes this important amendment.
