This is Why We Are $14 Trillion in Debt
A new Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released this morning spells out exactly why big government simply does not work. The GAO report highlights $200 billion in wasteful spending on redundant programs. A couple hundred billion here, a couple hundred billion there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money – namely our $14 trillion national debt!
The Washington Post points out that there are 100 programs dealing with surface transportation issues, 82 monitoring teacher quality, 80 for economic development, 47 for job training, 20 offices or programs devoted to homelessness, and 17 different grant programs for disaster preparedness. Those statistics are just the tip of the iceberg in this report. Ronald Reagan once said, “Governments tend not to solve problems, only to rearrange them.” This GAO report further proves that point.
