Citizens United Membership Wants Boehner Replaced As Speaker

Alarming Percentages Want Boehner Out, Disapprove Of Congress

Washington, D.C. — From July 20th to July 23rd, Citizens United surveyed a cross-section of our members nationwide about congressional approval and whether or not their Member of Congress should vote to re-elect John Boehner as Speaker of the House if the election were held today. 4,025 Citizens United members participated in the poll.

“After four and a half years as Speaker, it’s become crystal clear that grassroots conservatives are through being patient with John Boehner. Less than 6 percent of those polled would want their Member of Congress to re-elect Congressman Boehner as Speaker if the election were held today. John Boehner has a problem with conservatives, because they are feeling used,” said David N. Bossie, president of Citizens United. “Conservatives put John Boehner in power, and they aren’t seeing the conservative agenda they were promised in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Conservatives are clearly ready for new leadership in the U.S. House. Furthermore, public polling indicates that congressional approval averages a feeble 15 percent. Our survey – which only polled grassroots conservatives – has congressional approval at just over 2 percent and that is downright alarming,” Bossie continued.

“These results build on the attitudes found in our presidential preference poll from last month. Our membership is totally fed up with the Washington establishment and the failed status quo that has its grip on Congress,” said Bossie. “In Citizens United’s online presidential preference poll in June, the top four finishers – Dr. Carson, Gov. Walker, Sen. Cruz and Mr. Trump – all anti-Washington, anti-establishment candidates, took up a whopping 65 percent of the vote. Today’s results on Congress and Speaker Boehner echo those results wholeheartedly,” said Bossie. The results are as follows:

Question 1: Do you approve or disapprove of the job Congress is currently doing?

Approve: 2.3%

Disapprove: 95.4%

No Opinion: 1.9%

Question 2: If the election for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives was being held today, would you want your Member of Congress to re-elect John Boehner as Speaker of the House?

Yes, Re-Elect Boehner As House Speaker: 5.6%

No, Don’t Re-Elect Boehner As House Speaker: 90.3%

No Opinion: 3.9%
